I have this book and it is great. If you took out all the Jaco transcriptions, and every mention of Jaco, it would still be great. The exercises will help every player. They are fundamental exercises any musician who wants to be fluent on their instrument would use. Then you add all the Jaco material, and you have one fantastic, value packed book.It should be in every bass player's library of learning material.Well done Ray. I am hoping you will do a Volume Two. I know there is more info you can share. There's another one in you.

I just took delivery of this book. I have looked through it and read a lot of the text.

It is not a book for beginners, although in conjunction with a teacher and some other material it would be useful. I think it's main value is for the intermediate player who can read and has some musical theory knowledge. It breaks down the pieces into manageable chunks with a detailed breakdown of how the theory was applied. Basically, it does the work of transcription for you. For what it offers, this book is incredibly cheap and great value for money. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

I'm looking forward to my in depth journey through it. I bought the book a couple weeks ago.it's definately a good buy.it reminds me alot of preparing for my proficiency exams on guitar for my jazz studies degree.

Lot's of scales and arpps etc in many positions.and this is very important if you want to learn the Jaco path.solid transcriptions, a play along.i wasn't impressed by the bass tone on the play along but if you want to get into this stuff i can't see why this book wouldn't be a great study tool. It's definately a reflection of how comprenhensively Jaco praticed the bass. “Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.

Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.”― Jim JarmuschJim Jarmusch, who makes great films worth you time. I attempted to convey what I learned from years of studying with Jaco, not to bring more clones into the world, and I think you understand that. I would encourage students to read the text portion carefully, because a lot of what he taught is contained therein. It's not just a matter of learning patterns. Again, Jaco really opened up my mind musically, especially with regard to harmony, and that's what I'm trying to pass along.

As for another volume, I don't know what the future holds, but anything is possible. Thanks so much for the kind words and the support, Schlyder.
