You know the difference. This includes promotion of YouTube or Twitch channels, an artist's social media pages, and leagues.Other sim racing subreddits. Seems like every time a post about the F1 series is here people down vote to oblivion without even mentioning why. I'm curious as to why this is. And has anyone in this sub actually driven an F1 car or any open wheel racer with downforce?
I would like to hear from them to get a real life opinion if it's realistic or not and/or which Sim comes close to replicating it the best experience.Edit: Really happy with all the responses. Glad we could have a good discussion in this sub finally without any hating or arguing.
The cars make no sense at all to me. It doesn't feel like you're learning a simulated system, no matter how accurate it is. It feels like you're learning the threshold if various fixed 'if statements'.LiveForSpeed is a bit dated now, and other games emulate open wheel cars with downforce more accurately, but it is still a coherent and consistent real-time system 'based' on actual physics that you can learn and apply normal driving techniques to. There is also a licenced F1 car in it from 2006 that is both far more challenging to drive, but also far easier to get a feel for than anything Codemasters have put out for F1.It's like Codemasters approaches things from a different angle.
It's like they have a generic car engine, and then have added various cases and extra checks to try and make it feel more like an F1 car. It does not feel consistent. It doesn't feel like you're in any kind of real-time simulation.Like any game, you can get good at it.
I just feel like it's a waste of time, because it doesn't feel like I'm learning anything or improving myself as a driver, like I have done in actual racing sims, even dated ones. The last F1 game I got cheap looks and sounds stunning, but driving it felt like learning all the quirks of the game to get speed, rather than just driving how I drive any other sim, or my own car on a track day.Put me in iRacing, LFS, AC, rFactor, even GT6, and it's like no matter what car you pick, even open-wheeled downforce cars, you can use the same knowledge in all of them, and get up to speed in a few hours (minutes for some) using the same techniques. Try the same thing in Rocket League, Mario Kart, Need for Speed or Codemasters F1 and it doesn't work. You have to learn the game itself from scratch, and if you go back to one of those sims, you're slower and out of touch again. Massive waste of time for me, as I find it slow to adapt even from one real car to another compared to most. In terms of physics, I know this is subjective but rF2 in general feels much more natural and correct, iRacing is by far the greatest competition platform however - so for single player experience rF2 might be better - though bear in mind no laser scanned tracks, or if there are not as good as iRacings currently.David Williams 10 months ago:Actually no. That's funny, your description on how you feel about rf2 is how I feel about iracing. Guess it's down to personal preference.Iracing's feedback felt stunted and wierd to me. Also iracing's graphics and sounds are nothing to write home about. Rf2's track dynamics and weather simulation is still heaps better than iracing (or it was last month when I tried iracing again).I also think joining a healthy league will change your opinion on rf2. Racing on public servers or with the AI is no fun.
